中國水產門戶網報道Spanish canned seafood output rose strongly in 2005, as revealed by figures from the country's National Association of Fish and Shellfish Canners (ANFACO). The overall volume of canned fish, shrimp, and preserved anchovy totalled 311 197 tonnes, worth 1.240 billion. This represents a 6.4% rise in volume, and 7.6% in value over 2004. Only canned molluscs and squid failed to make similar gains. Exports amounted to 114 135 tonnes, up 3.08% on the previous year; valued at 398.3 million, up 3.52%. Last year's star product was tuna. Spain produced 180 409 tonnes (excluding white tuna and tuna with vegetables), up 7.5% on 2004. The value of canned tuna output was 415.9 million, up 8.7% on 2004. Canned sardines follow in a distant second place by value, with production totalling 28 485 tonnes, up 0.7% on 2004. The value of sales was 155.2 million, or 2.8% more than in 2004. Third in terms of value are canned cockles with a volume of 5 710 tonnes, up 5.0%, and value of 130.7 million, up 13.9% on 2004. Fourth is canned white tuna with a 2005 production volume of 12 291 tonnes, up 0.2% on 2004, and value of 90.9 million, up 1%. Spain also produced 13 551 tonnes of canned mackerel in 2005, a 15% improvement on the previous year, the total value of sales was 86.6 million, up 8.5% on 2004. Most Spanish production is concentrated in Galicia, which accounted last year for 248 958 tonnes or 80% of national output, worth around 967 million.
